Church Street, New Street, and Broadwaters Road
Looking along Church Street towards The Green in October 1965.
St. Lawrence's Church and the lich gate.
The lich gate at St. Lawrence's Church was erected by the Owen family as a memorial to Alfred Ernest Owen, one of the founders of Rubery Owen.

The seats alongside the lich gate are dedicated to the late George Harry Buckley who was private secretary to Alfred Ernest Owen, and a personal friend.

The photograph opposite is taken from the end of New Road, looking across New Street to the parish church. On the left is Shaw's pawnbrokers and clothes shop.
The new development in Broadwaters Road in 1965.

Broadwaters was an area that flooded with water from the local coal mines.

It took many years and much effort to drain the land.

The photograph was taken in October 1965 when the flats were nearing completion.
