Rosedale

300 Dunstall Road

Listing: Rosedale, 300 Dunstall Road.

Comment:  Late 19th century detached villa now converted to offices. This is an attractive double fronted two storey house with central recessed porch under a semicircular arched opening with bay windows to either side running through both storeys. Some original features survive inside including a good geometric tiled floor in the hall way, Good red brick piers with shaped pier caps are a prominent feature on the Dunstall Road. Currently used as offices for Social Services the building has substantial extensions added in the 20th century of no intrinsic merit. The house has particular interest being the birthplace of Sir Jack Hayward on 14th June 1923 and the home of his father Sir Charles Hayward in the early part of his career when he was a managing director of A.J.S. motorcycles where he oversaw the production of sidecars. The family lived at the house until 1930 when Charles moved his family to London to expand his business interests.
