Wolverhampton's Listed Buildings

Avenue House Lodge & flanking gates and piers

The Rock, Tettenhall

Listing: c.1840

Comment:  Presumably this lodge was erected after the Telford-inspired cutting through the Rock. The photo above shows the whole group, including the gateway to the left which provided the carriage entrance to Avenue House itself by cutting across the scarp face.

Between 1998 and 2002 the current owner has been restoring the building to its former glory.  He has erected the original stable block and recreated the original scene as the property was built.

The group now makes a valuable contribution on one of the most important routes into Wolverhampton.
