In the 18th century, a number of prosperous businessmen built fine, substantial houses near their place of work. As a result large Georgian houses appeared in Dudley Street, Victoria Street, Berry Street, and Bilston Street, Wolverhampton.

The largest of all was Molineux House, later known as the Molineux Hotel, which became home to one of the town’s most successful families.
