Tettenhall has a long and interesting history. It began as a rural village, and slowly evolved into an up-market urban area, housing some of the many successful businessmen, and traders from Wolverhampton and the Black Country.

This article includes extracts from William White’s “History, Gazetteer, and Directory of Staffordshire” published in 1851, and also images of the area, taken from some of the older Tettenhall postcards.

The directory lists the more prominent householders, and the local business people who lived in the locality in 1851.
